As of December 2002, an estimated 42 million people worldwide are infected with HIV/AIDS. Seventy percent of these people live in
Sub-Saharan Africa, where HIV/AIDS is now the leading cause of death. Many of these people are women of childbearing age whose reproductive health needs have oftentimes been ignored or overlooked.
JHPIEGO is developing education and training programs that help prepare health professionals to meet these and other clinical care needs. With support from the
US Department of Health and Human Services
(DHHS) and the
US Agency for International Development (USAID), JHPIEGO has developed this series of multimedia tutorials to provide physicians, faculty and healthcare trainers with the technical knowledge they need to provide high quality healthcare services and to train other healthcare providers about the needs of women with HIV/AIDS. To date, twelve tutorials have been developed based on
resources from DHHS, Academy for Educational
Development, World Health Organization and JHPIEGO.
