Spermicides: Management of Side Effects

SIDE EFFECT Vaginal irritation
ASSESSMENT Check for vaginitis and GTIs.
MANAGEMENT If caused by spermicide, switch to another spermicide with a different chemical composition or help client choose another method.

ASSESSMENT Check for GTIs.
MANAGEMENT If caused by spermicide, switch to another spermicide with a different chemical composition or help client choose another method.

ASSESSMENT Check for allergic or inflammatory reaction.
MANAGEMENT Reassure that warm sensation is normal. If still concerned, switch to another spermicide with a different chemical composition or help client choose another method.

ASSESSMENT If requested by client, check for undissolved tablet after insertion.
