Over the past 2 years, the Maternal and Neonatal Health Program (MNH) Program has been working with Columbia University’s Averting Maternal Death and Disability (AMDD) Program to develop comprehensive courseware, as well as site assessment and followup tools for Emergency Obstetric Care (EmOC). The courseware and
tools—Emergency Obstetric Care for Doctors and Midwives and
Anesthesia for Emergency Obstetric Care for Doctors and Midwives—are now available on Reproline
at: Emergency Obstetric Care for Doctors and Midwives.
Please contact Elizabeth Kizzier (ekizzier@jhpiego.net)
for more information.
Also available from the MNH Program, is the Emergency Obstetrics Care Quick Reference Guide
for Front Line Providers, a pocket-sized booklet designed to help the front line healthcare provider recognize and respond to obstetric emergencies. Based on the World Health Organization manual Managing Complications of Pregnancy and Childbirth (WHO 2000), the Quick Reference Guide provides information to help the provider diagnose the problem, stabilize the woman, and arrange for transport to the nearest facility capable of managing and treating the complication. A limited number of copies of the Guide will be available free of charge in English, French, and Spanish.
