In October 2001, three USAID cooperating agencies (CAs) conducted a desk review to determine the extent to which STI/HIV/AIDS information is integrated in national guidelines. These CAs reviewed the most recent family
planning/ reproductive health (FP/RH) guidelines for three West African countries: FHI for Mali, INTRAH/PRIME for Benin and JHPIEGO for Niger. Each of the CAs will share a report of the desk review with
in-country counterparts. The same desk review will be repeated for the remaining six countries that are currently members of the Francophone MAQ (Maximizing Access and Quality) Subcommittee (i.e., Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Guinea, Ivory Coast, Senegal, Togo). The Population Council will conduct the desk review for Senegal, and FHI will perform the review for the remaining five countries.
Currently, JHPIEGO is working with partner CAs to develop a followup questionnaire that will help determine the extent to which STI/HIV/AIDS information from the guidelines is accessible to providers at their service delivery sites.
In-country counterparts will use this questionnaire to conduct interviews with local service providers.
