  • Counseling Lap/LA acceptor
  • Verify informed choice and consent

Discussion: IP for Lap/LA

Discussion: Preparing to observe surgery

Agenda and opening activity

Discussion: Pain management and pharmacology of drugs

Demonstration and Practice: Standard technique for local anesthesia using photo set and model

Discussion/Demonstration: The role of the nurse/OR attendant

Review key steps in:

  • pre-operative assessment
  • client preparation
  • standard Lap/LA technique

OR Practice: Divide into groups (physician/nurse teams/group)

Group 1: Perform Lap/LA

Discussion: Fundamentals of laparoscopy under local anesthesia

Demonstration: Laparoscopy under local anesthesia

  • Client Assessment
  • Indications and precautions

Review of day’s activities

Tour of the operating room

P.M. (3 hours)

Exercise: How to use the learning guides (counseling, clinical and verbal anesthesia)

Demonstration by trainer: Standard Lap/LA method using local anesthesia with client

Exercise: Review trainer’s demonstration

Classroom Practice: Doctor/nurse teams practice Lap/LA using pelvic models and learning guides

Review of day’s activities

Group 2: Practice client counseling, pre-op assessment and client preparation

Participants assess each other’s performance using learning guides

Group 3: Observe IP practices before and after surgery. Practice assembly/disassembly

Review of cases
