Learning Exercise

  1. Survey 5-10 of your colleagues who care for patients and ask them to estimate the risk of transmission after a single needlestick from an HIV-positive patient. Ask them to rank HIV, hepatitis B, and hepatitis C in order of risk from a single needlestick from an infected patient. Report your results.
  2. Please list the greatest barriers to use of standard precautions in your setting. Do you have suggestions for improvement in the use of precautions with each patient?
