Below are three different scenarios. Think about the risk for HIV transmission in each case and about how you would counsel each of these individuals. 

Choose ONE scenario and write down your answers to the questions.

  1. A 16 year-old girl comes to the family planning clinic and requests hormonal contraception. She is sexually active with a 22 year-old man in her village. 
    1. How would you assess her risk for HIV? What questions would you ask?
    2. How would you address the issue of HIV prevention in this case?

  2. A 23 year-old woman presents for antenatal care in her first pregnancy.

  3. A 16 year-old boy is seen at the STD clinic because of itching on his penis. He has recently become sexually active for the first time.
