- How would you assess his risk for HIV?
- What are the benefits for this man in knowing his HIV status?
- Are there any risks for him in learning his HIV status?
- A 26 year-old woman presents for antenatal care at 14 weeks gestation. She is married and has two young children ages 2 and 4. She denies any symptoms or history of sexually transmitted infections. She appears healthy. Her husband works in a city 100 km distant from their village but comes home every weekend.
- How would you assess her risk for HIV?
- Would you recommend HIV testing in this situation? Why?
- The woman is offered HIV testing and refuses. What are some of the reasons she might refuse testing and how might you address these?
