(Nov 03) CEDPA Website
http://www.cedpa.org
The Centre for Development and Population Activities (CEDPA) is pleased to introduce new training manuals for program managers and trainers working in reproductive health. The manuals provide in-depth and step-by-step guidance to trainers working in workshop settings. Topics include reproductive health awareness, female condom, dual protection and sustainability for community health organizations. The manuals were produced under the Enabling Change for Women's Reproductive Health (ENABLE) project, funded by
USAID.
For copies of these training manuals and to other related reports, visit
http://www.cedpa.org/publications/enable/. All ENABLE publications are available in print, PDF or CD-ROM.
Reproductive Health Awareness: A Wellness, Self-Care Approach is CEDPA's flagship reproductive health curriculum and will be a prized tool for program managers and trainers working in the reproductive health arena. This comprehensive training resource consists of 14 modules, which cover topics in-depth and explain how these issues affect people throughout the lifecycle. Issues covered include: body awareness, self-care, gender, sexuality and interpersonal communication. The modules are adaptable to a variety of settings and audiences and are designed to allow trainers flexibility.
Female Condom and Dual Protection: Training for Community-Based Distributors and Peer Educators helps community workers address issues and behaviors that contribute to unintended pregnancy and the spread of STIs and HIV/AIDS. The manual introduces the female condom, provides strategies to bring about behavior change to ensure dual protection and reintroduces the use of the male condom.
Sustaining the Benefits: A Field Guide for Sustaining Reproductive and Child Health Services is a reference guide for NGO and program managers who wish to build enduring community-based programs. It explains "sustainability" and accompanies readers through a process to transform understanding into organizational action. Although it can stand alone, users of the guide may find it useful to explore the sustainability concepts in a workshop setting.
Reproductive Health: Manual for Trainers of Community Health Workers has been developed to enhance the skills of community-based distributors and community health workers so they can effectively provide service delivery. Developed in India, this manual uses simplified participatory training methodologies and is designed for use by NGO program managers and trainers working directly with CBDs and CHWs to improve skills and technical knowledge. Included are training modules on basic concepts of reproductive health, safe motherhood, care of the newborn, STIs and HIV/AIDS. (Available in November, 2003)

(May 03) Sample International Reproductive Health Curricula - PATH
<http://www.path.org/resources/rh-sample-curricula-index.htm>
Despite the large number of students and faculty interested in international reproductive health issues, many schools of public health
(SPH) do not yet offer courses focusing on them. PATH's Women's Reproductive Health Initiative
(WRHI) has collected curricula from several SPH that do offer such courses. PATH has compiled these curricula into a packet that includes course objectives, session outlines, student assignments and reading lists.
The packet provides a resource to faculty and other curriculum decision-makers interested in introducing or expanding coverage of reproductive health. The faculty members who have contributed their courses encourage adoption or adaptation of their work, knowing that the models they have provided will make the challenge of designing or enhancing reproductive health courses easier.
The packet includes curricula on reproductive health from the following schools of public health:
-
Columbia University
-
Emory University
-
Harvard University
-
Johns Hopkins University
-
University of Michigan
-
University of Illinois
-
University of S. Florida
-
University of Vermont
-
Tufts University
-
Tulane University
-
Yale University
This is not an exhaustive collection of reproductive health courses offered by US-based schools of public health, but it offers variety in content and approach.
For more information, contact Joyce LeFevre at jlefevre@path-dc.org or Rebecca Quiroga at
rquiroga@path-dc.org at PATH http://www.path.org.

(Mar 03) Directory of Hormonal Contraceptives
(IPPF)
http://contraceptive.ippf.org
In 1988, IPPF published the first edition of its Directory of Hormonal Contraceptives. Since then, many new products have come on to the market while others have been discontinued. To keep the directory up to date, an electronic database has now been developed, enabling the user to cross reference the most current information more quickly and easily than in the past. The database can be useful to family planning associations, service providers, international organizations, and individual users. Those providing hormonal contraceptives may use it to help them choose which contraceptives to order for their programs by checking the composition and the manufacturer of the contraceptive. By consulting the directory, program managers can avoid, for example, ordering pills with the same composition under different brand names. It is also useful for healthcare and family planning providers to see which hormonal contraceptives are available in different countries around the world. They can advise their clients whether their current contraceptive is available under another brand name in a country abroad. The database can be searched by brand, composition, country, manufacturer, or type.

(Sep 02) Performance Improvement in
Healthcare
http://www.pihealthcare.org
Performance Improvement (PI) is a process for enhancing employee
and organizational performance that employs an explicit set of methods and strategies. Results are achieved through a systematic
process that

-
identifies gaps between desired and actual performance;
-
identifies root causes;
-
selects, designs and implements interventions to fix the root
causes; and
-
measures changes in performance.
PI is a continuously evolving process that uses the results of
monitoring and feedback to determine whether progress has been made and to plan and implement additional appropriate changes.
This website is designed to provide information, tools, and guidelines for planning, implementing, monitoring and evaluating
performance improvement processes and activities in health services delivery organizations. It is tailored for managers,
leaders, providers and other employees working in international health organizations and institutions, including health
ministries, health departments and nongovernmental organizations.
