About the Information in the
Presentation Graphics Sets

Information provided in the presentation graphics sets is adapted from several valuable resources including:

  • PocketGuide for Family Planning Service Providers, Second ed (Blumenthal and McIntosh 1996).
  • Improving Access to Quality of Care in Family Planning: Eligibility Criteria for Initiating and Continuing Use of Contraceptive Methods (World Health Organization 1996).
  • Recommendations for Updating Selected Practices in Contraceptive Use, Volumes 1 and 2 (Technical Guidance/Competency Working Group, US Agency for International Development, Washington, DC 1994 and 1997).
  • Infection Prevention for Family Planning Service Programs (Tietjen, Cronin and McIntosh 1992).

ReproLine includes presentation graphics sets on all currently available contraceptive methods; contraception for clients with special needs, such as women over 35 and women with medical problems; and topics related to family planning, such as infection prevention, GTIs and HIV/AIDS.

Several transparencies provide relevant information for more than one contraceptive method. These include:

  • counseling purpose and principles (4 graphics),
  • WHO’s classification system of contraceptive eligibility criteria (1 graphics), (link http://www.who.ch/hrp/progress/37/6.html )
  • types of emergency contraception (7 graphics), and
  • definition of relative risk (4 graphics).

In order to reduce duplication among presentation graphics sets, icons appear on the bottom of these transparencies which should be used in conjunction with the contraceptive method sets. Links in the presentation graphics sets lead to the appropriate sections when additional transparencies should be used.

Two types of contraceptive method presentation graphics sets are available on ReproLine:

  • Basic Sets

  • A basic presentation graphics set provides the most important information about a specific contraceptive method, including benefits, limitations and conditions requiring precaution for use. The basic set is recommended for presenting an overview of the method.

  • Advanced Sets

An advanced presentation graphics set provides more detailed information about a contraceptive method, including data from published studies. The advanced set is intended for presentations to healthcare workers who need detailed information on a method. In addition, for some of the transparencies in these sets, notes are provided for further explanation of the data.
